Grand Fatal

Stage 3

Its barely been 18 months since Grand Fatal first starting bringing their intense live shows to Australian stages, and not once have things slowed down for the post-hardcore rock quartet. They've managed 2 successful EPs, 3 Triple J rotated singles, 5 broken guitars, 2 broken down vans, around 150 shows across the country (including national supports for Grinspoon, Shihad, Cog, Hot Snakes, The Spazzys and After The Fall) and a slew of press praising the band for their passionate and melodic approach to rock.

But things are in no way slowing down for Grand Fatal. On October 10th, they will release their debut album Allies - the product of many long nights of hard work and frustration for the band, who suffered every set back during the recording. From hard drive and equipment failure, to barking dogs and intense sickness (vocalist Jimmy Meek lost 10 kg during the sessions), the band struggled through 166 hours of recording over 11 days - and even managed to do a national tour with Hot Snakes in the middle!

The end result is an album full of desperation and energy - mixing honest melodies, walls of guitars and one of the tightest rhythm sections around. Producer Jon Boy Rock (Decoder Ring / Front End Loader) captures the bands intensity and connection with their music to help deliver what is 36 minutes of what the band like to call "high velocity soul rock". The setbacks and frustration the band endured is not only what makes Allies, but also what makes Grand Fatal as a whole. The hard work, the sweat and instincts behind everything they do is a testament to just how much their music means, the fatalistic manner in which they approach it providing the urgency that makes the band so thrilling.
